Architecture and sculpture
Traveling to India and visiting the magnificent temples dotted around the country, allows you to discover the diversity of architectural styles and the richness of the sculptures decorating the carved walls. Four religious structures could be spotted. Two related to Buddhism: the stupa (or chorten) monumental reliquary and the monastery.
The shrine (Chaitya) and the Brahmanic temple are unique to Hinduism and Jainism. If the Hindu religion spreads its monuments profusely, the Muslim religion is not left behind with its mausoleums of which the most remarkable, the Taj Mahal attracts visitors from all over the world. Its architectural sobriety is opposed to the profusion of sculptures adorning the Hindu temples. A visit to the exceptional temples of the Ellora caves in Maharashtra or a trip to Tamil Nadu is an unforgettable experience. For bringing a bas relief with you, the shops are full of sculptures of wood and stone representing the numerous gods of the Indian pantheon.
