Svastika, lingam and yoni are three strong symbols of Hinduism.

Unfortunately, became famous for the shameful use of National Socialists during the Second World War, the svastika or swastika decorates many monuments. Sanskrit word, it means a cross composed of four branches ending with gallows. The Greek sign gamma presents an identical graphic, from where it’s named.

Used by Jains and Hindus, it evokes luck and good fortune. It can be drawn in both directions (branch of the stem to the right or left), both indicate a beneficial meaning.

Lingam: a phallic symbol representing the god Shiva, it often stands near temples and places of cremation. Associated with the yoni, receptacle of stone presenting the universal matrix, the whole represents the totality of the world.
